ONE-DNA™

ONE-DNA™

Designed for Recycling.

ONE-DNA™ is a synthetic turf technology based on a single-polymer architecture. From fibre to backing, the turf is made from polyethylene (PE), without latex or polyurethane coatings. This fundamentally different material design simplifies the material composition of the turf and creates a homogeneous PE material stream at end of life, while maintaining the performance required from the surface. By eliminating the conventional coating step, ONE-DNA™ also eliminates the ovens associated with this part of the production process. The result is a different approach to how synthetic turf is designed, produced and prepared for its next material life.

Why choose ONE-DNA™

  • Single-polymer architecture: Polyethylene (PE) from fibre to backing.
  • No latex or polyurethane coating: The fibre fixation eliminates the conventional coating step.
  • No coating ovens: The production process does not require the ovens associated with latex or polyurethane coating.
  • Designed for mechanical recycling: The mono-material construction creates a homogeneous PE material stream at end of life.
  • Performance by design: Material architecture and sports performance are engineered as part of one integrated system.

What happens at end of life?

The end-of-life route for synthetic turf depends on the recycling infrastructure available in each market. ONE-DNA™ has been designed with this stage in mind. Its mono-material PE construction is designed to provide a homogeneous material stream suitable for mechanical recycling, depending on available recycling infrastructure.

The animation shows how the single-polymer architecture works, from fibre and backing through to the material stream available at end of life. See how ONE-DNA™ combines performance engineering with Design for Recycling in one integrated turf system.

How is ONE-DNA™ designed for recycling?

ONE-DNA™ is made from polyethylene (PE) from fibre to backing. Using a single polymer means different polymer types within the turf construction do not need to be separated at end of life.

With no latex or polyurethane coating, the result is a homogeneous PE material stream designed for mechanical recycling, depending on available recycling infrastructure.

    Measuring the impact

The environmental performance of ONE-DNA™ is being quantified through lifecycle assessment, including material selection, production and end-of-life considerations. The assessment will provide data on the environmental impact of the system and allow its performance to be communicated on the basis of measured and independently verified results.

    One Polymer. Endless possibilities.

ONE-DNA™ starts with a simple material principle: use one polymer throughout the turf construction. With no latex or polyurethane coating, the turf creates a homogeneous PE material stream designed for mechanical recycling at end of life, depending on available recycling infrastructure. This approach brings performance engineering and Design for Recycling together within a single turf system.
